Your loved one may have reached the stage in life where they need long-term care, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and you may think that a care home is the only option.

Your elderly family member may justifiably be reluctant to move and may find the thought of leaving their home and familiar surroundings upsetting. Now, there is an alternative solution: live-in care from Elder.

A better solution for residents of Argyllshire

Even if your loved one’s care needs have moved beyond that which is offered by home care services whose carers pop in and out only a couple of times a day, your loved one can still be happy and safe in their own home. A live-in carer from Elder will move in with your loved one, providing support, encouragement and companionship every hour of every day in your loved one’s own home.

This support can range from full care for those who need support with all aspects of their life, to providing more of a watchful eye for those who are still active and able but may need prompting to take their medication at the appropriate times, for example, or who would like a companion to prevent loneliness. Instead of your loved one being taken away from their home and their community, they can continue to enjoy life at home with all the care that they need from a live-in carer.

Independence for your loved one in Argyll

No matter which beautiful area of Argyll your loved one lives in, they will still be able to take advantage of all the benefits of live-in care from Elder. Care homes in Argyll are spread out over a wide area, which means that your loved one could end up far away from all that they know and love if they move to a care home.

A live-in carer, however, helps to ensure that your loved one is not taken out of their community and their home, which is beneficial not only for their physical well-being, but also for their mental health. Remaining in their own home with appropriate care may even help recovery from illness and/or injury and staying in familiar surroundings is often better for those who may be coping with anxiety and confusion.

From Tobermory to Campbeltown, your loved one will benefit greatly from having a dedicated carer in their own home.

“Judith is absolutely lovely and you could see the fantastic relationship she has with my mum. My mum’s smile nearly lit up the whole house when Judith arrived.”

Individualised care plan

It’s difficult for care homes to provide a bespoke care package for all their residents as the ratio of staff to care recipients does not allow for individualised attention. At Elder, we recognise the need for a bespoke care plan that is tailored to your loved one’s specific needs.

The care plan will not only detail your loved one’s physical care needs such as help with bathing and dressing but will also take into account important things such as when your loved one likes to have their meals (and whether or not they like to do their own cooking, if they are still able to) and which clubs or activities they like to attend.

A care plan can be drawn up for a person who is living with Alzheimer’s, for example, or another form of dementia that can provide them with a lot of support that the complex needs of their condition may demand and that will ensure that they are safe at all times.

A comprehensive plan could also be created for a person who is much more mobile but who would like their live-in carer to help with household chores such as light cleaning and cooking. A live-in carer would be more than happy to provide your loved one with delicious and highly nutritious meals every day if your elderly relative is no longer able to take on all the cooking alone.

If your loved one would enjoy trips out then their preferences can be detailed in their care plan. Perhaps they would like to take in the views from McCaig’s tower in Oban followed by a warm drink and cake in the town’s Oban Chocolate Factory, for example? Or perhaps they would prefer a day out to one of the many beaches found throughout Argyll?

The variations in care plans are as numerous as the variations in people.
