What is live-in care?
Live-in care offers a great alternative to residential care when your elderly loved one seems to be struggling to manage in their own home. Rather than moving into new accommodation, and adapting to a new way of life, your loved one can remain in their own familiar surroundings, thanks to the help of a dedicated caregiver, who moves into the home, acting as a facilitator and enabler.
Why is live-in care a better option than a care home in Ulverston?
Whether your loved one lives in the town itself, or one of the surrounding villages, such as Rosside, Swarthmoor or Bardsea, they will have built a life for themselves, where they are surrounded by the familiar faces of friends and neighbours.
Rather than moving into a care home, where they are unlikely to know anyone and must start again and make new friends, a live-in carer enables your loved one to carry on enjoying their day-to-day routine with no disruptions.
The older generation are accustomed to making their own decisions and leading an independent life, so moving into residential care, where their days are subject to institutional timetables, can be a step too far for many older people.
With the help of a live-in carer, your loved one can continue to socialise and enjoy their favourite things, without being dependent on care staff being available, or risk assessments being carried out.
If your elderly relative would like to go for afternoon tea at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Room on Market Street, they can be there within minutes, rather than having to wait for a request to be approved.
Many of our care recipients have beloved pets, which most care homes are unable to accommodate. Pet ownership has been proved to lower blood pressure and improve wellbeing, so an Elder carer will happily help out with pet care duties, including feeding and exercising them, if necessary.
What does a live-in carer in Ulverston do?
Elder live-in care is specifically tailored for each recipient, meaning that there is no ‘one size fits all’ care solution. We take the time to understand your loved one’s abilities, likes, dislikes and needs, before creating a bespoke care plan.
We understand that your loved one’s needs are likely to change over time, so the care plan is used as an initial blueprint for care, with the understanding that amendments will need to be made to encompass your loved one’s changing needs.
An Elder carer will provide companionship, as well as helping with a variety of household chores, such as washing up, housework and laundry duties. They will ensure that your loved one receives appropriate amounts of fresh air and exercise to promote good health, along with tasty and nutritious meals.
Tact and empathy are important qualities that Elder look for in their carers, and this means knowing when to take a step back. So for example, if your relative is a keen cook, then the carer will take a back seat, only stepping in to help when asked to do so.
The carer will make sure that medical appointments are made, and kept, whether at Ulverston Community Health Centre, or the local community hospital. They will collect prescription medication from Murray’s Pharmacy on Stanley Street, and ensure that it is dispensed in accordance with medical instructions. Most importantly, they are always on hand in case of emergencies, which gives peace of mind to you and your elderly relative.
Who can benefit from live-in care in Ulverston?
Elder can supply all types of carers, from providing simple companion care through to the more complex care needs of those with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, where a high degree of personal care tasks are involved, such as help with bathing, dressing and toileting.
Whether your loved one is lonely and would benefit from having a live-in companion, is recovering from a chronic illness and needs help to get back on their feet, or requires more lasting care, Elder can supply the perfect live-in candidate, who will enable your elderly relative to make the most of every day.
How much does live-in care in Ulverston cost?
An Elder carer is on hand throughout every day and night, providing 1:1 care whenever it is needed, so you might expect our charges to be similar to those of a care home. In fact, we charge around 30% less, although this saving increases where the carer is looking after a couple in their own home.
We charge a single flat rate of £795 per week, with absolutely no hidden extras, so you won’t find any nasty surprises when it comes to paying the bill. Our low price doesn’t mean that we compromise on paying our employees either - all of our carers are paid above the industry standard rate, to reflect the outstanding work that they do.
