What is live-in care?
Sooner or later, many elderly people start to experience difficulty coping with day-to-day life in their own homes. Whether they are feeling lonely, leading to them spending increasing amounts of time on their own, or whether they are experiencing problems with their memory, causing worry to the wider family, who are concerned about their safety, you may feel that they are no longer safe to remain in their own home without assistance.
That assistance can be provided in the form of a dedicated live-in caregiver, who moves into your relative’s home and provides help, support and a friendly face at every hour of the day.
Would live-in care in Grantham be more suitable than a care home for my loved one?
Whether your elderly relative lives in the town of Grantham itself, or in one of the many surrounding villages, such as Great Gonerby, Harlaxton or Manthorpe, they are unlikely to be willing to move away from their familiar surroundings and into a care home. Such a move would mean adapting to a whole new lifestyle and routine, something which can be difficult at any age, but even more so for an elderly person who has become set in their ways.
A live-in caregiver will fit in with your relative’s current routines, helping and assisting with any task to ensure their comfort, safety and wellbeing at all hours of the day and night. Living on the premises means that they are on hand if your loved one needs help at night too, which can help to alleviate the worries and concerns of other family members.
Care homes aren’t usually able to accommodate spontaneous outings, as they are constrained by staffing levels and the need for risk assessments to be undertaken before residents can leave the building.
There are no such constraints with a live-in carer, who will action your loved one’s wishes immediately; so, if your relative fancies heading out for a cream tea at The Picture Caféin Westgate, for example, then that is where they will both go. Or your loved one may fancy paying a visit to the Saturday market in Westgate and Market Place, which the carer will happily facilitate.

What our customers say
“The security and patience of live-in care has meant my mother has relaxed and her general disposition has improved to no end.”
Who can benefit from live-in care in Grantham?
Some Elder care recipients only require a short period of respite care before they are able to cope alone in their home again, such as following an illness or after surgery. In these cases, the carer will perform a wide range of household chores and caring duties, slowly stepping back from these duties as your loved one becomes stronger.
In the majority of cases, however, care is a long-term solution, and where the care recipient has complex medical conditions, such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s, which become progressively worse over time, the carer’s duties will increase over time. Elder can supply caregivers with experience and training in providing personal care, such as help with toileting, dressing and bathing.
In other instances, the carer’s principal task may be to provide companion care, particularly for any older person who has lost a spouse and is feeling lonely and vulnerable. The presence of another adult in the home can be a great source of comfort, providing someone to enjoy social outings and days out with, or even just to enjoy a chat over a cup of tea.
From arranging medical appointments with St John’s Medical Centre or Swingbridge Surgery, to collecting prescription medications from St Peter’s Hill Pharmacy, the carer is on hand to perform any task necessary to ensure that your relative is comfortable and safe. They will help with a wide variety of household chores too, including ironing and making the beds, as well as ensuring that your relative enjoys a healthy and age-appropriate diet, packed with all the essential nutrients to ensure their good health.
How much will live-in care in Grantham cost?
Your expectation may be that live-in care doesn’t come cheap – although most care homes provide round-the-clock cover, this is never from one single individual, but is subject to staff rotas and shift patterns. Yet Elder live-in care costs just £1095 per week, which can be up to 30% less than you would expect to pay for a place in residential care.
Moreover, you won’t ever face any unexpected charges or additions to the bill with Elder. The weekly cost is all-inclusive, with nothing extra to pay, which allows you to plan for your relative’s future care needs with complete confidence. And don’t assume that we cut costs by paying the carers who work with us less than they deserve: our reputation is built upon their excellent work, which is why we always make sure we pay above the standard industry rates.
