What is live-in care?

A carer moves into your loved one’s home to provide full-time, bespoke care. Costs are comparable to a care home, however you’ll get more one-to-one care for your money, and your loved one will be able to stay in the place they know and love, surrounded by the memories and possessions that are a fundamental part of who they are.

Paying for care

Adults in Scotland are entitled to £233.10 per week towards their personal care, if your local council thinks you need it. You can use this funding to reduce the cost of live-in care.

If you’ve not done so already, contact your local council’s social services department and ask for a personal care assessment. If you’re eligible and you’d like to be cared for in your own home you should be given a choice around how your care is arranged and provided. You can request something called Self-directed Support – option 2, which will allow you to make your own care arrangements via a company like Elder.

Ian’s Elder story

Glasgow city council suggested Elder when Ian’s Dad’s health deteriorated. His mum was already getting regular visits from a carer, but Ian needed something full-time for them both. Through Elder they found Donika, a carer with whom they shared a strong cultural bond.
