Unfortunately recent research suggests this is the case for most people, and at Elder we’ve seen this for ourselves too. A lot of families come to us once mum or dad’s needs have reached a crisis point. It’s often a hugely emotional time with lots of unanswered questions.

Who are Elder?
Elder is an award-winning live-in care company that’s delivered over 10 million hours of care since 2016. Bringing together smart technology, clinical expertise, and personalised support, Elder connects carers to older people so that they can live their own lives, in their own homes, while getting the one-to-one care they need.
Live-in care gives people the choice to be cared for in their own homes. A quality assessed carer will move in, get to know you and how you like things, and provide truly personalised care.
A typical live-in care arrangement may look like –
Week one – Your chosen carer moves in, working up to ten hours a day. This week is usually a trial week to ensure everyone feels comfortable.
Week two and three – Provided everything is going well, the carer will stay.
Week four – Your carer takes some time off. We’ll help you find a respite carer to support while they’re away.
Week five to seven -Your carer returns. They’ll typically be in place for another three to four weeks.
A live-in carer’s daily responsibilities will be shaped around the exact needs of the person they’re caring for. This often includes any of the following –
- Household cleaning
- Help getting dressed
- Washing and grooming
- Toileting
- Medication prompting
- Preparing meals
- Emergency response
- Support with mobility
- Running errands
- Companionship
