Nottingham, a city steeped in history and culture, offers many activities for individuals of all ages.

Here are four things to do in Nottingham, along with details on their accessibility to ensure an enjoyable experience for everyone.

Nottingham Castle

Explore the rich history and stunning architecture of Nottingham Castle. The castle boasts diverse exhibits, including art galleries and historical artefacts. Enjoy a stroll through the castle grounds, taking in panoramic city views.

The entrance to the castle is wheelchair-friendly, and there are ramps and lifts within the castle to facilitate access to different levels. Wheelchair users can explore the grounds, though some areas may have uneven floors, and the underground caves, due to their age and history, are not wheelchair accessible.

The staff are trained to assist individuals with any access needs, making it an inclusive destination for older visitors.

Wollaton Hall, Gardens and Deer Park

Immerse yourself in the beauty of Wollaton Hall, surrounded by picturesque gardens and a sprawling deer park. The hall houses natural history exhibits and art collections, while the park offers a tranquil setting for a relaxing day outdoors.

The hall and restaurant are accessible via ramps, and there’s a lift for exploring different floors. The gardens have paved pathways, allowing easy navigation for those with mobility aids. While the deer park has natural terrain, certain areas are accessible, and staff members are available to provide assistance.

The Lady Trent

This river cruiser sails the River Trent in Nottingham and was ‘purpose-built to carry disabled passengers for the St John Ambulance’s Watering’ before the Trent River Cruises took over operation.

Teas and coffee are offered on board, and the experience is a great way to view the river. The boat is accessible via a ramp, and all doors are double-width to allow wheelchair users to pass through. There’s also a wheelchair-accessible toilet with enough space for one wheelchair user and carer.

Theatre Royal & Royal Concert Hall

Head to the Theatre Royal & Royal Concert Hall for a dose of culture and entertainment. Whether it’s a play, musical performance, or a comedy show, these venues offer diverse entertainment options.

Wheelchair spaces are available in the auditoriums, and the staff are trained to assist individuals with disabilities. Accessible restrooms and facilities are provided, ensuring a comfortable experience for older visitors.

Nottingham provides a variety of accessible attractions for older individuals and their loved ones. By considering the accessibility features of each venue, you can plan enjoyable outings that cater to the needs of all participants, making memories that will last a lifetime.
