Elder tipsCollaborating with a self-employed live-in carer to provide the best care for your loved one is all about teamwork. Carers bring extensive experience to their roles, while you bring a deep understanding of your loved one’s preferences, needs, and personality.
Here are some tips to help you work together seamlessly –
Effective communication
Use Elder chat for communication with your carer, or set up a group chat on WhatsApp for everyone involved in your loved one’s care. These platforms are excellent for quick updates and check-ins.
Honesty
Open communication is crucial for a successful live-in care arrangement. It might take some time for everyone to settle in, so having honest conversations about how things are going can help clarify expectations and ensure everyone is on the same page. Care logs
If you prefer daily updates on your loved one’s care, ask the carer to record notes in the Elder care logs, accessible through My Elder. You can request paper notes or daily text messages if you prefer.
Scheduling
Carers manage their own time off but should communicate their schedules well in advance, giving you ample time to select a respite carer. Discuss these breaks early on, carers will book through the Elder portal.
Involving your loved one
Prioritise person-centered care by involving your loved one in care plans and routines whenever appropriate. This enhances their comfort and engagement.
Addressing health concerns
If you or the carer notices changes in your loved one’s condition, discuss the best approach together. Carers can offer valuable insights and support due to their experience. They can also accompany your loved one to medical appointments if you are unavailable.
By working together and utilizing these tips, you can ensure your loved one receives the best possible care.
