Cynthia
Cynthia was nominated for this month’s award due to her compassion and perseverance when her client was taken ill.
Cynthia joined the Elder Platform in October 2022 & has provided 27 weeks of care. She came to Elder with over 20 years of care sector experience, and was originally inspired to follow a career in care after caring for her own son – who is now a successful engineer.
In both her work and home life she loves solving problems, meeting people, and making sure they’re ok.
In her spare time Cynthia is an avid cook and baker, often baking for 150+ people at her local church group. She also enjoys relaxing with a good book, and listening to music.
“From the start Cynthia was different.”
If you had to describe Cynthia in just three words, what would they be?
Cheerful, compassionate, patient.
“Mum didn’t want carers. Others were unsatisfactory as they didn’t gel with Mum or were too forceful. From the start Cynthia was different and was accepted as a friend. She takes Mum shopping, to gardens and drives in the New Forest.
Mum developed delirium and needed hospitalisation. She became aggressive and was awake much of the night. Cynthia visited 2 or 3 times daily to help staff cope with her – taking in food that Mum likes.
She was by no means normal when discharged but Cynthia was compassionate and persevered until she settled down. She said Mum had been kind to her and treated her with respect so as long as Mum needed her she would stay.
They are now back to relative normality although Mum is more needy than she has been.”
