A dementia diagnosis or arranging dementia care can be a tough moment to comprehend. Among the confusion and worry that these situations can bring, writing poetry can be a great release. This National Poetry Day, we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to share some examples of verse exploring the impact of dementia on those living with it, and their loved ones.
Explore a collection of heartfelt and poignant dementia poems that capture the range of emotions, struggles, and experiences that come with this condition.
If you'd like to explore your feelings around dementia through poetry, there's no right or wrong way to start. Grab a pen and paper, or your laptop, and write what you feel. It doesn't have to rhyme. It can be whatever you want it to be. The act of writing it can be a deeply cleansing process, and the act of sharing it can inspire others to do the same.
Below we've shared some heartfelt poems that you can share if you'd like to.
