What is live-in care?

For people who have reached the stage in life where they need long-term care and someone around 24 hours a day, Elder’s live-in care service can provide an excellent alternative to residential care. Most older people would prefer to remain in their own home as long as they can, so having a live-in carer can make this possible while ensuring they are safe and well cared for.

If you would like to find out more about how Elder can offer your loved one in Monmouth the high standard of care they deserve, in the comfort of their own home, call and speak to our care advisors, who are available from 8 am to 8 pm, seven days a week.

Why is live-in care the better alternative to a care home in Monmouth?

Elder’s private live-in care can give you complete peace of mind because you know that your loved one has someone to keep them safe and to help with all of their needs. Because our carers work with your loved one on a one to one basis, you know they will benefit from the attention that is tailored to their specific needs, which they would be unlikely to receive in a care home.

Your loved one will be able to remain in their familiar community and continue to see friends, neighbours and family, as before. They will also be able to carry on enjoying the hobbies and activities that they are used to, as far as their condition allows.

If your loved one has a spare room, Elder’s carers can move into their home with them and provide the care they need. This may just be companion care, or if your loved one is living with dementia, our carers can supply the complex care that is needed for this condition.

Our carers are highly trained and experienced, so you can be sure that the quality of care that your loved one receives will not be compromised by the advantage of being able to stay in the comfort of their own home.

What makes Elder the best care solution in Monmouth?

Our service will support your loved one to remain as independent as possible while remaining in the place they feel most comfortable. Their individual needs will be discussed so that any help they require can be provided.

Your loved one will probably remain more active if able to stay in their own familiar surroundings and will be more likely to continue with physical activities, such as gardening. This has many well-recognised health benefits, and our carers will encourage your loved one to remain as active as possible.

How can live-in care keep your loved one as safe and comfortable as possible in Monmouth?

It seems that almost every day there’s a news story about con artists preying on the elderly, hoping to steal their belongings or trick them into handing over their savings. Having someone present in the home at all times, keeping a watchful eye on unexpected callers, is a powerful deterrent to opportunists.

Perhaps you worry that your loved one may forget to turn off the cooker or fail to lock the door at night. An Elder carer will ensure that your loved one’s home is secure; you can relax knowing that they are protected and looked after, day and night.

Many elderly people are lonely, sometimes unable, or unwilling, to venture out of the home. Their Elder carer is on hand to provide companionship both inside and outside the home, facilitating social events and outings, such as a visit to Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo, a gentle stroll around the level paths of Castle Meadows at nearby Abergavenny on a sunny day, or taking in a show at the Savoy Theatre.

All Elder carers understand the importance of fresh air, appropriate levels of exercise and the need for good nutrition. Your loved one’s caregiver will ensure that they eat regular, healthy and nutritious meals, and will encourage them to socialise with friends and neighbours so that that they lead as rich and fulfilling a life as possible.

The carer will arrange medical appointments at Castle Gate Medical Practice or Dixton Surgery, collect prescriptions from Well Pharmacy or Boots, and ensure that medication is dispensed in a timely and appropriate manner.

How does Elder live-in care work?

Whether your loved one lives in the town itself, or one of the surrounding villages, such as Wyesham, Over Monnow or Osbaston, Elder can provide a dedicated live-in carer who will attend to their needs every day and night.

We take time to source a caregiver who shares common interests with your loved one, to promote strong bonds of friendship from the outset, and we work with you to develop a care plan which we can adapt over time as their needs change.

Our carers can provide companion care, including assistance with household and garden tasks, right through to the more complex demands of personal care for those living with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, for example.

How much does live-in care in Monmouth cost?

We all know that residential care is expensive and most of our clients expect our live-in care service to cost similar sums. In fact, Elder live-in care is around 30 percent cheaper than a care home, at a flat rate of £770 per week. This cost is completely inclusive, and there are absolutely no hidden extras to pay.

This doesn’t mean that we cut corners on payments to our carers either: our reputation is built on the quality and expertise of the people we employ, which is why we make sure we pay them above the industry rate for the valuable work that they do.

Dulcie's Care Story

In this short video, Mary and Colin explain how Dulcie’s live-in Elder carer, Sarah, has become part of the family.

They discuss how live-in care has allowed Dulcie to stay independent in her own home, while making a new friend at the same time.
